Prof. Clea von Chamier-Waite

Clea von Chamier-Waite, PhD, is an intermedia artist, scholar, engineer and experimental filmmaker whose work explores material poetics at the intersection of art, science and technology. Her multidisciplinary practice is modeled on the experimental laboratory, integrating research, artistic production and scientific collaboration across climate change, water ecology, astronomy, particle physics, feminism and popular culture. She is Associate Professor of Computational Media and Arts at HKUST(GZ).

Prof. Ingeborg Reichle

Ingeborg Reichle, PhD, is a contemporary art historian and sci-art curator. Her research covers critical media studies, new media art history and computational aesthetics, as well as encounters between art and cutting-edge technologies. Her work also addresses artistic responses to systemic risks and global challenges such as climate change. She is Professor of Computational Media and Arts at HKUST(GZ).

Prof. James She

MEDIA ARTIST · PROFESSOR

James She, PhD, is Associate Professor of Computational Media and Arts at HKUST(GZ) and HKUST’s Division of Art and Machine Creativity. A media artist and former resident artist at Qatar Museums, he applies AI and media technologies across art, media, culture and sport. His work and that of his teams has been exhibited across Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and he mentors young artists for venues including Ars Electronica Festival.

Hao Li

Hao Li is a media artist, researcher and designer whose practice explores media space, audiovisual expression and generative art, increasingly developing AI and Mixed Reality as creative methods and research trajectories. He is pursuing a PhD in Computational Media and Arts at HKUST(GZ), where he serves as Exhibition Lead for the 2025 and 2026 editions of SURREALITY.

Zoe Qi-Jing Li

Zoe Qi-Jing Li is an artist and researcher investigating human–machine configurations through creative robotics. She is a PhD candidate at HKUST(GZ) and a research affiliate at the MIT Media Lab. Her work has been shown at museums, biennials and galleries across China and internationally.

Yu-Fan Li

Yu-Fan Li is a PhD candidate in Computational Media and Arts working across research and artistic practice. Her artworks explore bodily, material and uncomfortable forms of experience by combining everyday materials with AI, data and interactive systems. Her research focuses on neuroaesthetics, embodied aesthetic experience and visual art beyond fluent or pleasure-based models.

Tian-Cheng Liu

Tian-Cheng Liu is a researcher and artist working at the intersection of computational art, embodied interaction and human–AI co-creation. He is pursuing a PhD in Computational Media and Arts at HKUST(GZ). His art-led research has been presented and published at ACM SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH Asia Art Papers, ISEA, ACM Multimedia and VINCI.

Xin-Yu Ma

Xin-Yu Ma is an art practitioner and researcher based in Hangzhou and Shenzhen. He is pursuing a PhD in Computational Media and Arts at HKUST(GZ), following an MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths and a bachelor’s degree from the Sculpture Department at the China Academy of Art. His research investigates materiality through the nonhuman turn and speculative realism.

Heng-Yu Meng

Heng-Yu Meng is a Ph.D. student in Arts and Machine Creativity at HKUST. His research explores generative geometry processing for human-centered 3D content creation, human–computer interaction, and computational art. His work has been presented at SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH art, ICCV, IEEE VR, 3DV, and Creativity & Cognition.

Nicolò Merendino

Nicolò Merendino, also known as Chi ha ucciso Il Conte?, is a researcher, designer and educator working at the intersection of human–computer interaction, digital fabrication and digital musical instruments. His research investigates sustainable design practices, FLOSS methodologies and the long-term maintainability of interactive systems.

Joanna Jue Wang

Jue Joanna Wang is a cross-media artist and researcher pursuing a PhD in Computational Media and Arts at HKUST(GZ). Operating at the intersection of biosensing, computational art and spatial narrative, her practice combines expanded cinema, interactive art and hybrid placemaking to render new materialism tangible.

Qing Yang

TEXTILE ARTIST

Qing Yang is a textile artist from China. Her practice explores memory and emotion through the material presence of textiles. Interested in the tactile, temporal and embodied qualities of the medium, she investigates how materials bear traces of personal experience while reflecting broader social and urban transformations.
